Two Wolves and a Sheep
Where I think we’re headed.
How did he do such a monstrous thing?
People in general are afraid. They have been for many years. And when people are afraid it makes them feel like it’s okay to trade freedom for safety. And that’s the reason why we have an imbalance. And big governments always SOUND nice, but they take away your ability to be crazy or stupid just because you feel like it. They make infinite laws and regulations in an effort to make people more efficient so society and therefore that government itself is more efficient and can grow larger. And since mankind’s inefficiency stems from his diversity they soon find that they must make all men the same. And they do it one piece at a time, so no one notices.
And the liberals in Washington mean well. They just want to make things better, make us all be good and stop us from making mistakes. The problem with that is you can’t MAKE people be good. Laws aren’t meant to do that. They’re meant to make people afraid of hurting others so we can all live in peace. Plus, we LEARN from our mistakes!! If a child sticks it’s hand in a fire it will get hurt, and cry, and it won’t do that again! If you remove any chance that it could ever be hurt then it will never learn for itself. And you’re left with a nation of people who need a caution sign on everything. Caution: this coffee is hot. Caution: this could hurt you. And in the 80’s the air force even had a sign put on their WATER CANTEENS saying “caution” inhalation of contents could cause drowning” and I’m sorry but if someone doesn’t know that INHALING WATER CAUSES DROWNING then something’s really messed up there. And also, when you make a law against hurting someone else people generally obey it. Common sense tells us that it’s bad to hurt others. But when you make a law to keep someone from messing up and hurting themselves then they will ignore it. Common sense tells us that it isn’t the government’s bloody business what I do or don’t smoke, snort, inject or eat. It only affects me
If you don’t believe me, look at Minnesota. We have a law against what you can and can’t smoke. We have laws about where you can and can’t smoke. We have laws saying what you can and can’t put in your own body. It’s against the bloody LAW to skip school. We have laws against kids going out after dark. I know someone who’s 17 and he was out wandering the city at night and he got taken away in a squad car and had to do community service. We even have a freaking law against driving while not buckled in!!! And the taxes are so high here that people are losing their houses in the hundreds. The market is completely soft, because so many people have been evicted that the bank has too many houses and is dropping their prices dramatically!!
So what do we do about the unbalance? We have to go backwards. Take away useless laws that only seek to protect the stupid from themselves. Laws like the smoking ban, drug laws, and the “click it or ticket” bull. If the government continues shielding us from making mistakes we’re going to be a nation of imbeciles. We have to stop spending so bloody much and drop taxes considerably. We have to get rid of many, many members of the government who serve no purpose other than leeching on society. And (this is the hard part) we have to let people make mistakes and when someone offers to protect us if we obey them we have to say no. If we can’t do that then this imbalance will only get worse. We cannot let this become two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner. Unless you like high taxes and high spending and inconceivable numbers of useless laws. If you like all that then you’re a commie. And I know I’m going to piss a lot of people off by saying that but damnit it’s true!!
We have to stay in between anarchy and socialism if our way of life is going to survive. No, if we do nothing then the consequences will probably not be tomorrow. You won’t find a hammer and sickle flag flying in your front yard next Monday when you wake up. But eventually that will be the inevitable conclusion if we continue to do nothing.

INO – the government is “dumbing” down America so that “we the people” will be too stupid to know we’re being screwed! We have effectively taken away nature’s rule of “survival of the fittest” by allowing people that are too stupid to breathe to grow up and have children – thus passing on their “stupidity” gene to their children. If some guy is too dumb to know that hot coffee is going to burn his “lap” or that he is not a fish and his body is INCAPABLE of breathing water – do we really want him in the gene pool? I don’t need government regulations to keep me from doing things that will harm me – neither do my children if I take care of them and teach them some common sense. Unfortunately, a population that knows how to think for itself is hard for a dictator to control

It is not the governemnt that is dumbing down the people, it is actually our own ignorance. My generation specifically. Most of the kids I grew up with do not care about the factors that govern their lives. It’s the failings of parents to sit and talk with their kids about “The way things are and how they came to be this way.” It is the failing of schools to care more about their scores than if the kids are actually retaining that information. I am not for this “blame the governemnt” movement, it is to general and not specific enough to take any action against.
My father did a great job bringing me up and giving me a base philosophy for life. Instead of teaching our children how to think and develop their own philosophy, we teach them what to think and not to question what we teach. “Don’t do that!” “Why?” “Because I said so!” We teach out kids that all right and wrong is handed down by a higher authority, so we develop them to accept whatever the government says and eventually they learn not to question it because “they said so.”

Most of the examples you cite are the consequence of our living in a litigious society and the fear of liability. This has more to do with the judiciary rather than the legislature. Liberal principals often make a lot of sense. Basically, if we as a society invest in the underlining infrastructure of our society, it will be to everybody’s benefit. Of course right now, we really don’t have any money just a crap load of debt. And also if a person chose not to pay taxes, b/c they do not agree with the government’s spending, then the government will incarcerate that person. So, yeah democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what to have for lunch!!

People on the left see a role for government not becuaes they “think that people are naturally inclined to be bad and need to be told what to do in order to be good” but because they believe that in addition to individual interests, we have certain interests in common as a society. People on the right generally believe that if everyone energetically pursues their own interests without being restricted in any way by any government, the market will coordinate their efforts and take care of the common good. People on the left believe that we all have some responsibility to the common good as well as to our individual interests, and we need some institutional mechanisms through which to coordinate our contributions to the common good–it won’t “just happen.” Those mechanisms are what government consists of in a democracy.

All of this goes right out the window when money(power) is involved.
