Union Between Homosexuals Legal in Hawaii

State of Hawaii has legalized Wednesday civil unions for gay couples.

Although homosexuals will have the same rights and duties which they have married heterosexual couples, they will not be allowed to marry, according to CBS News.

Governor of Hawaii, Neil Abercrombie, a text which was signed on Wednesday voted in the Senate last week Hawaiian, when the law was adopted with 18 votes for and five against.

“For me, this law is equal for those who live in Hawaii, ” said Neil Abercrombie.

Also, the measure was hailed by gay rights campaigners. “It was time that the text be adopted for gays in Hawaii, who are denied the right to care for their families, ” said a member of the American Association for Civil Rights (ACLU).

The law will enter into force on 1 January 2012.
