US Visas for Spouses

An explanation of how to attain a US visa for a spouse.

Filing for a visa may seem like a complex process, but it is fairly simple. The first step when applying for a visa is to apply for petition. The US citizen will file a I-190 for with the local embassy or USCIS to request to apply for a visa. Along with the form, you will include biographical data forms, passport photos, marriage certificate, and any other documents required by the I-190 instructions. The forms can be obtained only at www.uscis.gov. Next, you will wait while your petition is being process.

After the processing is complete, the spouse will complete a physical at a location that will be listed by the US Consulate’s website. You need to gather together all proof to show the legitamacy of your relationship. This could be joint bank accounts, pictures, or any thing else that shows the two of you are a real couple. Finally, the spouse will be given an appointment date for an interview. Bring all documents to the interview along with the application for a visa that can be obtained from the USCIS website. The spouse will meet with the interviewer at the embassy and discuss the relationship. After the interview is complete, you will pay the filing fee with the embassy’s cashier. The approved visa should arrive in the mail shortly afterwards, and the couple will be able to enter the United States together.
