Do you think that the president should do what’s in the best interest for the people or the country?  I think that the president should do what’s in the best interest of the country because that will be looked on in future years as greatness.  For example Abraham Lincoln during his first term was supported by the people but towards the end of his term he was hated.  Many of the people wanted the war to end and others wanted to keep slavery.  After persuading the public he was re-elected and used a mandate to push towards the end of slavery.  But at the same time he was also trying to preserve the union.  So as you can see from that, people hated him then, but now we look at him as one of our greatest leaders.  I also think that the president should also act in the public’s best interests for things like taxes and health care.  I think you should take in the publics opinion on taxes because soon it mike come to hurt the economy instead.  Eventually it won’t be taxation for things we need but also things we don’t need and that will hurt the public and our government system.  So in conclusion the president should act mainly in the interests of the country but not neglect the people.

Do you know what a mandate is?  Do you know how a president gets one?  Well a mandate is a document giving an instruction or command.  So a president may issue a mandate for almost any thing.  One example is the more recent no child left behind act that was issued by President Bush. Where does a president get his mandate?  A president receives his mandate from the voters who elect him to act as there representative.  So if he was newly elected or re-elected he would receive this power.  But what can a president do with this gained authority?  He can use it to help enforce laws and taxation.  This power is not only the president’s it can be given to any part of government.  Such as, our local representatives being our congress men and senators go to Washington D.C. to appeal for our local interests.  The president has an enormous responsibility to the interests of this country and the people.  A mandate is one way the president can carry out his agenda.
