Communism in its attempt to provide for “each according to their needs” and to take from “each according to their [means] ability” failed to address the natural inclination of humans to ‘bludge’. Like the Little Red Hen of the fairy tale who gathered wheat, ground it and made bread all without the help of her lazy neighbours, why would you bother to be productive if you would not necessarily gain more than others who are unproductive? Wouldn’t you just answer, “No, I will” and look after yourself.
