106 Years of Powered Flight : a Recollection

How the Wright Brothers Made Wrong Things Right.

I forgot how many times the flight attendant disturbed my nap in between movies aboard to take my meals. Inflight entertainment with an LCD monitor showing programmed films on play were not that enjoying to keep me awake. I only recalled watching “Ghost Town” with Greg Kinnear, Ricky Gervais and other not so well known stars. There was a stop-over at Doha and an hour off the plane was required and we stayed at the terminal until the announcement for boarding the final flight to Heathrow. The last leg of the flight seemed shorter as I slept more. The next thing I knew, the pilot was announcing the aircraft’s pattern for landing and I was making out city lights from below at the break of dusk above London.

So if you ask me how the Wright Brothers made wrong things right, here’s the catch. At the span of 18 hours in the Philippines on a good weather I will get aboard a bus in Alabang which will ferry me home at the island of Panay at the province of Antique. This bus will be loaded on a ferry allowing it to cross the distance of the islands and by hopping from Batangas, Mindoro to Panay, I will arrive back in my hometown after that span of time. Coincidentally with that same span of time, crossing Time Zones I have to reconcile my thinking landing in Heathrow Airport after one stop-over on the same date about 6:15 in the evening. Fortunately it wasn’t a bus, thanks to the Wright Brothers, it was a plane but mother of all coincidences, I wondered why it was called an Airbus.

great recollection of the 17th, you made the flight seem so easy! I do not fly well and hate to sit for a long time! But you are right onboard an \\\\\\\’airbus\\\\\\\’ that can get you from one side of the earth in a matter of a day is truly amazing! x

A really interesting article. I used to do a topic about flight each year when I was teaching. The children found it fascinating.

Wow! Amazing details. It’s all good to be mesmerized by history, especially on an amazing invention such as the aircraft. Wonderfully written!

Since Vietnam I’ve been afriad of air travel. And there is no reasoning that’s going to change my mind which is strange because I’m fascinated with flight and airplanes.

My first flight was rappelling down a helicopter about 150 feet. That was was my first time when I was in the army. I hope I won’t be doing it anytime soon. Thanks to the Wright Brothers , the impossible are made possible. Very interesting article mate.;)

This is a great story. I have never been on an airplane before. I am too scared to find out what it is like.

well-written story and interesting article on the Wright brothers. You are very courageous too. I love to fly and never really think of any danger when I’m on the plane.

It amazes me how far airplanes have come in a relatively short period of 105 years….think about it – as far as we know, there were no airplanes prior to 1903…it’s also less amazing to me that we were killing each other in airplanes in World War One, only about 13 years after that first flight in Kitty Hawk.
