A Glimmer of Another Reality: Can Artistic Media be a Window to Another Reality?

Are certain songs, films, books, and other works of artistic media from various time periods windows into alternate realities that fractured off around the time they were first produced? Two songs by Blondie always remind me of a world that could have been or that is existing somewhere else. Find out which Blondie songs just may be a window to another reality.

Do you ever get the sense that things should have gone differently? Maybe you get this sense about your own life or the state of the world. Maybe things did go differently in another reality. Maybe some fracture in the fabric of time caused a rift that set events in motion that created the reality that we are experiencing. If certain events had not happened the reality that we are experiencing may have been completely different. That other reality may also be happening on an alternative time line. It may be possible for us to get a mental glimpse at how that alternate reality is unfolding from certain pieces of media that were made before major events that changed this reality’s time line into what it is now.

Hanging on The Telephone- Blondie

For the purposes of illustration of this principle in this article I will be focusing on media produced in the time period of roughly 1978 to 1982. I suggest that some music and films produced during this time period give a psychic glimpse into what the world would have been like had The Ayatollah Khomeini had not come to power in Iran, had Ronald Reagan not became President of the United States, and had the disease AIDS not come into existence or had it been put under control when discovered. The world was going in a completely different direction before these things came into play and the media produced before and around the times of these events gives me a psychic glimpse into what I believe is a more positive reality that could have existed in this time line as well had they not been a factor.

Dreaming-Blondie

When I listen to the songs Hanging on The Telephone and Dreaming by Blondie I feel at a core level this feeling of hope and a sadness at that hope being crushed by the rise of Ronald Reagan and The Neo-Conservatives in The United States of the 1980s. I hear in Deborah Harry’s voice when she sings these two songs a psychic glimmer of the reality that would have come into existence in this time line had The Ayatollah Khomeini not come to power which was one of the biggest factors that lead to the election of Ronald Reagan as The President of The United States, which in turn affected the way the AIDS pandemic was handled. This is a sense that I feel deep inside of myself and this is very real to me, if you question if this is a real feeling then try looking deep inside of yourself to find your own psychic glimpses of alternative realities.

Note: the usage of the word media in regards to songs, films, works of art is because of its meaning “a medium of cultivation, conveyance, or expression”. This note is for those who have not used the word in this way or are not aware of this usage of the word.

WOW, like you peeked into my ruminations that strike me at 3 AM and rob my sleep.

Maybe such times of deep despair and anguish (well, it was for me) need to be balanced by hope somehow, even in an alternate timeline or reality? Art (no matter the form) does that. Some of the most beautiful music or paintings came from desperation.

(On the other hand, when people are too satisfied, the music sucks).

Maybe all of those could-have-been realities exist somewhere else. Maybe.
