A Huge Peril of a Shorter Summer Vacation
Many might notice that for children, Summer Vacations are getting shorter across the United States. Yet the shorter vacation is not being felt by children as well, but the teachers and administration of schools are feeling a certain amount of strain.
Many children are on their way back to school rather shortly or already have been back on their way to school for quite some time. There are many schools these days that start towards the middle to end point at the second week of August, while ending in the last week of May or the first week of June. You may notice that summer vacations are getting shorter and children are going back to school earlier. Which naturally would be a cause of celebration for many parents for sure, but regardless it does seem as if summer vacation is rather getting shorter. Now this is just basing this on the United States educational system and it’s not completely the same one hundred percent of the time.
School Used to Start Across the United States After Labor Day and End Before Memorial Day.
Leaving pretty much the tail end of May, all June, July, and August, and the first bit of September to be open for an entire summer vacation, which seemed to be a good system. Yet as the 1970s shifted into the 1980s, more schools decided to end a little later and start a little earlier. The window of summer vacation continued to shorten in the 1990s and then into the 2000s it was getting much shorter, as few as nine or ten weeks at times, depending on the school. Looking at the trends of schools over time, the summer vacation is inching shorter and likely at this rate, by the year 2020, school would end in mid June and start at the tail end of July. It could eventually be the slow transition to children essentially going to school all year around.
Heat Schedule
Heat schedule for schools for those that are not familiar, are students going to school for a nearly full school day but just an hour to ninety minutes shorter. In the days when school started after Labor day, heat schedule was not around, as the weather was mostly cooled enough for it not to be considered an issue. Yet with these shortened school days, it gives teachers less time to properly convey that the lessons that they teach children. Many argue against heat schedule and it is getting phased out in many places, especially with more schools getting air conditioning thanks to the taxpayers. Yet the need for heat schedule was not now with the longer traditional summer vacation in the United States in days past.
Teachers and Administration Have Less Time to Prepare for the New School Year
A problem many might not have considered, is the fact that the summer could be potentially used for any flaws in the school curriculum and the subjects in school. Not to mention if any teachers retire or otherwise leave, there could be a problem with finding a quality teacher before the school year. The lack of quality instructors is a problem in many schools across the nation but when there comes less time to plug in a person that would work rather than just anyone. Children having less time for a summer vacation and to recharge is secondary, compared to the teachers and administrators having less time to prepare.
Summer vacations will continue to shorten and there is one fatal flaw that might be harming rather than hurting the education of our children.

I think School Admins should done their part; preparation for school openings, school activities. etc..in advance, so that they could find some time to think the positive effects to the schoolchildren.

The school district in my general area, which is greater Los Angeles, CA, is out mid-June. School begins again the Wednesday after Labor Day and in our state and locally, as well, teachers are required to give notice 6 months prior to retirement and with the massive unemployment, we have a huge pool of teachers waiting to be hired. Our children seem to have a full 2 months of free time and the teachers do as well. I think all situations are different and not comparable…

Maybe they need to evaluate the system based on the circumstances obtaining in your country.
