A Trip to The Exhibition and Coffee or Tea in Aachen, Bonn Napoleon

City of Aachen (Aachen, Germany, French Aix-la-Chapelle, Aken Flemish) lies in the westernmost point of Germany, namely in places where they intersect the borders of three countries – Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

In the Middle Ages Aachen was the royal and imperial seat of the place of coronations and imperial councils. Charlemagne chose this as his favorite residence from local hot springs there and built an imperial palace. The spa tradition continues today. The most famous thermal spa are Charles (Carolus Thermen Spa), other than as named after Charles the Great. Aachen Cathedral was the first German monument on UNESCO’s World Heritage List .

This is not the only reason right now to visit Aachen. This is another exhibition in the local museum Couven. It’s called Coffee and Tea sober and West by 23 runs March 2011.

For centuries Europeans have poured their neck of beer, wine and liquor. In the 17th century, the Old World coffee arrived, along with tea. She was previously extended only between the Arabs in Africa, tea has its origins in Asia. First, the two enjoyed drinks favored only in aristocratic circles, and later settled down among townspeople. The popularity of the then match the spirit of the Enlightenment in the 18th century dominate the general thinking.

In order to avoid the worn cliches that Napoleon appear as a warmonger or a superhuman political genius, the curators of the exhibition focused on the more differentiated section of the Napoleonic era, including war, politics, administration, establishment, propaganda and culture.

Treasures that survived

To 2 Bonn in January, the Art and Exhibition Hall of the extended unique exhibition entitled Treasures of which survived. Late 70s years, archaeologists have discovered in Afghanistan remains of the cemetery, which dated to the beginning of our era. Some graves contained the large number of gold objects of incalculable historical and artistic value.

Paris Musee Guimet, in cooperation with the Afghan National Museum organized a collection of 220 objects that have survived two millennia, and especially the last decades, which have many historical monuments destroyed or disappeared. Among the displayed items are mostly jewelry – necklaces, pins, needles – and in gold inset gems. Exhibition Hall is open from Tuesday to Sunday (9 to 21 respectively. 19 hours).

Air travel

The nearest airport at Aachen 65 km away to Cologne, where the Prague daily flying low cost German airline Germanwings. From Cologne to Aachen can be reached quickly and comfortably by train, the station walk straight from the airport. The train journey takes about an hour. Much faster from the airport Cologne / Bonn get close to Bonn.
