It appears that the much feared Egyptian police are back to buy Mubarack time to stay in power.

One person was killed and nearly 600 were wounded as anti-government demonstrators and supporters of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak clashed in Cairo on Wednesday. The person who died was a soldier who was killed when he fell from a bridge, according to health officials in Cairo. Reports say that most of the injured had been struck by stones. It turns out that there are reports that thousands of demonstrators on both sides clashed.  Reports from Al-Jazeera said that things were getting quieter in the square after that. The Qatar-based news network had interviewed a protester who said state TV was telling people to evacuate the square, but she said armed thugs were at the exits and she was too scared to leave. It seem odd that after a week of anti- Mubarack protests that so called supporters of his regime would only show up now and show up in force as if it was corordianated. And reports said that soldiers did nothing to stop the violence beyond firing an occasional shot in the air and no uniformed police were in sight, but is appears that civilian ones were. Clearly there was fighting that just spilled into each other and there was direct hand-to-hand clashing between the two sides.. It appears clear at this time that the dictator has no intentions of giving up power and is simply waiting it out, for some reason and maybe rightfully so, time is on his side, again time will tell.
