He traveled from the Pacific coast of South America to Polynesia on a balsa wood raft called Kon-tiki.

1)      David Livingstone (1813-1873) – He was a missionary and explorer of Africa. He qualified as physician and set off for Africa after his ordination as a missionary. He traveled over rivers Zambezi, shire and Rovuma. He discovered lake Ngami, the Victoria Falls and Lake Nyasa (now Malawi). During his attempt to trace source of the river Nile he met Henry Stanley, another great explorer. Livingstone died in Africa.

2)      Sir Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) – he was British explorer and journalist. In 1871 he was sent the publisher of New York Herald to search for David Livingstone in Africa. Having found him, the two men explored Lake Tanganyika. Later, he went on an expedition down the Cong River (now Zaire River) to its mouth.

3)       Robert E. Peary (1856-1920) – he became the first man to reach the North Pole. He explored the Arctic regions and reached the North Pole in 1909, during the last of sis expeditions.

4)      Roald Amundsen (1872-1928) – a Norwegian explorer, led the first successful expedition to South Pole reached there in December 1911, five weeks ahead of the British expedition led by Robert Scott. In 1926 he made history by flying over the North Pole in an airship. He and his crew disappeared in the Arctic in 1928 during an expedition.

5)      America Ear hart (1898-1937) – am American aviator, was the first woman to make a solo flight across the Atlantic in 1932, and across the Pacific in 1935. Her plane was lost over the Pacific Ocean during an attempt to fly around the world.

6)      Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974) – is one of the most famous figures in the history of aviation. In 1927 he made a non-stop solo-flight across the Atlantic Ocean, from New York to Paris. He completed the journey in 33 ½ hours in the plane the spirit of St. Louis.

7)      Thor Heyerdahl 1914- A Norwegian scientist, led expeditions to prove that many hundreds of years ago, people could have taken long ocean voyages to establish contact with people living in other continents. In 1947 he traveled from the Pacific coast of South America to Polynesia on a balsa wood raft called Kon-tiki. In 1969 he built an Egyptian reed boat which he called Ra and traveled on it across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1977 he traveled in another reed boat from Iraq to Djibouti.
