Advocates and Opponents of Malthusian Theory
Thomas Robert Malthus was born in Surrey, Great Britain, to Daniel and Henrietta Malthus (Gonçalo). Malthus was influenced by the philosophers David Hume and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and the political economist, David Ricardo. He influenced Darwin’s development of his theory of evolution.
The Malthusians, Anti-Malthusians and Neo-Malthusians all had views on how the population would grow. While I believe that the Anti-Malthusians are the most correct, each position has its own studies and statistics that support it. As the world population continues to grow, figuring out whether or not the population needs to be restricted has been a controversial topic, and will continue to do so until one side is definitely proven correct.
