Age of Empires Game Journal Three – Discoveries

Age of Empires I
Ascent of Egypt Learning Campaign
Campaign III – Discoveries.

As our training campaigns start to get closer to finishing, we are starting to discover other cultures.

My tribe is located in the west and our closest neighboring culture is a tribe called the Minos. We have heard the story of legendary sacred sites in the areas close to our village. Our goal for this campaign is to find these five discoveries and stake claims to them before the Minos do.

I start this campaign with one villager and a Town Center.

I send my villager off to chop wood while I create another villager at the Town Center.

I will send him off to find food.

To the east he has found some berries and is busy gathering them and bringing them back to the Town Center for storage. I create a third villager as soon as enough food has been gathered. He scurries off to help gather food.

I don’t have the option of creating an army at this point in the game, so I would like to  create an exploring party of villagers before setting off to find the sacred discoveries. Villagers are weak in battle so if they run into any opposition alone they will be killed. I will create at least five villagers to explore the land around our village.

After the 4rth villager, I will need to build some housing. To create five explorers and three workers I should only need one house. I will send my 4rth villager to build a house as I create the rest of my exploring party.

I now have five explorers at the Town Center awaiting my instructions. I will instruct them to first explore the area west of our village. My foragers have completed their berry picking and will be joining the exploration.

My explorers report that they have found the first sacred discovery west of the village. They have also encounter a lion attack, which they killed and brought the meat to the Town Center for storage. One explorer was hurt pretty badly so I will send him to chop wood in safety while the rest continue their journey.

As my explorers continue exploring southwest of the village they find a second sacred discovery. They report that a few gazelle were also seen roaming in this area, if we need them later for food.

Exploring further south, the explorers are attacked by a Minos scout. One of my explorers is killed before they take the scout down. Immediately after taking down the scout , they are attacked by an alligator, which was kiledl and and meat was brought back to the Town Center for storage. One explorer is injured, but he will continue with the exploring group.

A third sacred discovery was found slightly east of the village. Explorers walked upon another lion, but reported that the lion was thankfully distracted by a passing gazelle and gave chase away from us.

The fourth discovery has been found to the north.

On the journey back toward the east, explorers run upon the Minos Town Center.

A little further east explorers are attacked by another alligator. The injured explorer was killed but the rest got control of the situation and killed the alligator.

Just ahead of the alligator explorers find the fifth sacred discovery and this campaign ends victoriously.

I am really enjoying doing these campaigns over again. I also have Age of Empires 2 and 3, but want to finish the first series again. I have finished AOE 2 previously, but haven’t played much of AOE 3 yet.
