American Revolution

Causes and effects of the American Revolution in North American 1700’s.

The different laws and taxes placed on the American Colonies caused the colonists to have anger and corruption. The Proclamation of 1763 restricted the American Colonists from expanding west of the Appalachian Mountains, where the Natives settled. There were already colonists who had settled there and they were angered when they were forced to leave their homes there and restart their lives. The Sugar Act of 1764 had a huge impact on British and American economies. Britain placed new taxes on sugar, coffee, wine, lumber, iron etc. As the prices of the goods increased, less people would buy the goods and the merchants would make too little of a profit resulting in them losing their business. The merchants then decided to boycott the goods which caused Britain to lose a chunk of their revenue so the act was repealed. The next year however in 1765, another act called the Stamp Act was once again passed on the American Colonies. The colonists protested about taxation without representation. For years, these laws and taxes went on and eventually led to the American Revolution.

During the American Revolution, the American Colonies had many changes to their government. When the Americans had control of all the colonies, they immediately drove out British agents and governors. They then made their own new laws amongst themselves. In 1776, the Colonies all agreed to declare independence from Britain, resulting in the issuing of the Declaration of Independence. This declared that the American Colonies were free and has no political connection with Britain. They renamed these thirteen colonies the United States of America or USA for short. Finally, in 1783 after the defeat in Yorktown, the British decided to sign a peace treaty with the American Colonies. This treaty was called the Treaty of Paris (1783). Now the American Colonies will be seen as a free and independent country.
