There were many central ideas of the French Revolution. Many for equality and many more demanding change. In many cases books and other pieces of art were created to depict the live of the bourgeoisie and their fight against the monarchy.
“Liberty leading the people” confirmed the central views of the French Revolution through the usage of Romanticism and bold artistic ventures.
The art itself shows the battle at its height. The background is full of fog and a mountain of bodies has begun its ascension. But in the center there is a strong woman leading a young man and also a rich man and a poor man. This shows how anyone can lead a revolution be it a mother with her child or a poor person leading the rich. Something the artist also clearly depicted was the bold color of France’s new flag. The three very bright colors, red, white and blue, stand out over all the dirt and the presence of death in the picture. That is what the true fight is for, The Republic of France. Also the style used by the artist is Romantic. A romantic style painting is full of motion. The painting promotes the ideas of action and overthrowing the government just like what is happening.
The central ideas of the French Revolution were constantly depicted in artists work. But in Eugène Delacroix’s “Liberty leading the People” the art depicts many themes seen constantly throughout the early parts of the French Revolution.
