Unit 4- Ultimate Notes
Ancient Greece
Day 1: Review Midterm; Fact & Folklore Greece; Map
Monday, 1/26 H – Block 8
Tuesday, 1/27 A – Block 3
Goal:
1. Review Midterm
2. Fact & Folklore
3. Greece Map
HW: McKay 89 to 91
Reading Questions:
1. Describe the geography of Greece and the effects of this geography. Countless uninhabitable islands that serve as stepping-stones to Asia Minor and mountains that are in every part of Greece. All this segregation caused encouragement for political fragmentation.
2. What were the two earliest Greek cultures? Describe them. The two earliest cultures of Hellas were the Minoans and the Mycenaeans. A king ruled the Minoans who flourished on the island of Crete. Archeologist digs have shown us that they used plenty of bronze so we described this time as the Bronze Age. Also they had trading routes with the Middle East and the Mycenaeans.
The Mycenaeans political and social patterns and qualities follow the Minoans broadly. They were lead by a king and his warrior aristocracy. Commerce between them and Anatolia, Cyprus and Egypt flourished later
3. What were relations like between the Minoans and Mycenaeans? They had traded and did not see each other as possible enemies but as commerce friends.
4. What happened to the Mycenaean kingdom? They were attacked by the Dorians who also spoke Greek but, that is what some people say but in reality the Dorians came after the destruction of the Mycenaean kingdom. Truthfully the Mycenaean kingdom collapsed due to civil war.
