Ancient Rome
Artical all about ancient Rome.
The definition of society is: A group of people living together as a community in a country or region
The ancient Romans where divided into two groups patricians and plebeians. The patricians were the rich or they had royal blood and the plebian were the slaves and peasants (the people lower down). Both groups lived together even though the plebeian were not treated as well as they should have been. Later on they were divided even more into four groups slave free people commons equestrians and senators. There was two ways of becoming a slave you were either born into slavery or you were sold into slavery. The slaves were under control or owned by the rich. The free people were either people that were slaves but earned their freedom or they never were slaves but they weren’t high up on the class list. The Equestrians were the rich people there was no way of being born into that class they had to have a stable minimum amount of wealth (property worth at least 400,000 sesterces). The senators were the political people; it included all the men that severed in the senate.
There were different types of money The aurous (gold), the denarius (silver), the sestertius (bronze), the dupondius(bronze), and the as (copper).
One of the architectures that still exists, is the roman colosseum which is located in Italy Rome it is one of the world’s biggest tourist attractions. Emperor Vespasian and his son Titus between AD 72 and AD 90 built it. It was a place for entertainment it would be like going to the movie for them so that says that entertainment was part of the ancient roman society worldview. It was in the colosseum that gladiators would fight to death and against wild animals. It could seat over 50,000 people and was the main attraction. Another roman architecture that still exists today is the leaning tower of Pisa. The construction took over 117 years and construction on it first started on began on August 9, 1173. The tower was supposed to be straight but the reason for it to be leaning is that the foundation was poorly laid causing the tower to shift and lean
The difference between primitive and civilized society is that primitive society is where the society moves with the animals and the weather across the land. Civilized society is where the society decides that they are going to stay in one spot and deal with the changes. They also decide that the land is good enough to farm and hunt because the land is prospering. The Romans were a civilized society because they had their own city, land and water. The ancient Romans did not move there society because the land they had was good enough to grow fruits and vegetables for food and to raise animals for meat. Their water system was very advanced what they did is they made aqueducts. They had flowing water and plumbing and sewage systems that were highly advanced for their time. The system carried diseases and pollutants out of the water. The ancient Romans had a government and they built permanent buildings that still exist today so that means that when the Romans settled they decide to stay where they were. They made their buildings to last they were probably thinking ahead for the future for many years.
Climate of Rome
The climate in Rome is hotter than Canada it does not go below -0c so in the ancient Rome times the people did not have to dress up warm they probably wore sandals all year long. their summers were dry and hot and the winters were rainy and warm but with it being so hot the Romans would need access to water or else people who didn’t get water would die of thirst.
Technologies
The ancient Romans invented presses that they used to press olives. They also constructed numerous aqueducts. Aqueducts back then were channels of water that provided to where they needed it. Now a day’s an aqueduct are pipes that carry water but they were used for the same reason. The city of Rome was supply water by eleven aqueducts. Lots of the thing that they used they copied from the Greek but they made of made little modifications to them.
