…And the Walls Came Tumbling Down
The Fall of the Soviet Union.
Reagan’s presidency, Gorbachev’s fragile rule, and general Soviet turmoil all contributed to the slow but steady dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. President Reagan’s carefully planned and craftily executed foreign policy with the Soviet Union put the United States in a position of superiority. Gorbachev’s careless and irrational reforms brought nothing but animosity, division, and embarrassment to his own empire. For these two reasons, common and all-purpose civil uproar was prevalent from the USSR’s Eastern borders to her Western outer empire. All of these factors amalgamate to create one of the more complicated but nevertheless interesting events in the history of the world.
