Anne Frank: A Light of Hope in a Hopless Time

This paper explores Miep Giess’ book, Anne Frank Remembered, and how that one good-hearted girl has inspired and will continue to inspire millions.

Over six million people died because of one man’s cruelty in the early 1940s. That is equal to the population of Alabama and Nevada combined! This sad, tragic, and shameful time in history is known as the Holocaust, and it affects Jews and many others in much of the European continent. Some of the innumerable people who are affected are the Franks and the Van Daans, two innocent Jewish families, along with Mr. Dussell, the family dentist. Fortunately for them, Miep Gies, Mr. Kraler and other thoughtful Christian friends, only five-billionths of the world population of that year, make a difference in the world because their selfless actions of helping those in hiding inspire many, Anne’s heart-warming diary educates citizens in almost every country on the globe, and Miep’s firsthand account of the resistance efforts records an important historical event in Anne Frank Remembered  by: Miep Gies and Alison Leslie Gold, thanks to whom Anne Frank’s story shall never be forgotten.

” …her voice has reached the far edges of the earth …” Miep Gies wrote writes about Anne Frank’s voice in Miep’s book Anne Frank Remembered on page eleven. I completely agreeThis is a very good point. Anne’s story does inspire innumerable readers and bring many to tears. Why? Anne Frank’s story of survival and rebellion against what’s wrong to doHitler’s discrimination shows millions that you they do not have to conform to what one man with an army says just because they have guns-you people can, and should, do what you they are certain, deep down inside youthem, is right. This point is illustrated by what Mrs.when Mr. Frank says in the play that they cannot put locks on your minds-you people are always free to think for themselves, and act upon your their conclusions. This story of them their suffering but rebelling during the Holocaust inspires many. This inspiration can be seen in any form-a few people decide to rebel or a whole country is inspired to treat Jews better. Its effect is huge, in many small ways and large, history-changing ways; too.

“great attention was paid to the diary” writes Miep on page 248. This quote shows that many people read the diary, which is absolutely true. Anne Frank’s moving diary educates those millions of readers who are brought to tears by her story. What do they learn? First, they learn what it must have been like to live in fear every single moment for literally years. They never knew-will today be the day the Nazis find us? Did that dish breaking make too much noise? Will the Germans wonder for what these floors are being used? What might a day bring? Also, readers learn about the everyday life of Jews in hiding during the Holocaust: get up, use the plumbing, and eat breakfast quietly, then be extremely quiet for many hours until one can finally make noise again, all the while living in fear. Anne’s diary helps people understand what it means to be “in hiding”- what it means to be a Jew in the Holocaust.
