Australian History: Technology Back in the Day

These days we have many different appliances that make our life easy eg. washing machines, ovens and computers, but could you ever imagine living without these things? All ideas come from somewhere and to advance technology the ideas had to start somewhere. Travel back in time in this report and discover how Australians got by using old appliances from 1850-1900.

It was hard keeping clean in doing these jobs weather it be bringing in a dead rabit for dinner or planting seeds in the garden it was all tough work and it was sure that by the end of it your hands wold be dirty. Although between developing towns hygene wasn’t the first thing on our minds. Everyone weather it be the rich or the poor bathed once a week. We bathed in a big tub that sat next to the fire to keep the water partially warm. Everyone would take turns in the bath using the same water. We all used soup that mum made either from grease or lard. We also had what was called a drop pit toilet to dispose of our…waste. The drop pit toilet was a little room made of wood in the back yard. It was basically a large hole in that ground that everybody would pitch in to dig. We had a seat that you sat on over the hole so you wouldn’t fall in. When the hole was full we would simply put the dirt back in the hole and dig another one somewhere else in the back yard.

That is all that I am willing to share with you about how I conducted my daily life without electricity. So please take this information wisely and perhaps you might be the one that saves the world from becoming totally depended on electricity by bringing back one of these inventions of the past.
