Babylonian Empire

Today’s most asked question about Mesopotamia is: Which Mesopotamian Empire accomplished the most?

There were many different empires in Mesopotamian times, but only one accomplished the more than every other Mesopotamian empire. The Babylonian Empire had the invention of laws and codes to punish people for stealing, causing injury, and so on so forth. These laws helped people to be more protected. People were punished for their wrong actions and being unfair.

The laws and codes spelled our punishments. For example, a builder who sells a poorly built house that collapsed and killed its owner could be put to death. This is one of the ways to be fair to everyone. Laws like this one seem harsh to us now, but Hammurabi’s code was an important achievement. It was the first code of laws to apply to everyone.

Others may say that the laws are unfair and are extremely harsh. Many people may not know this, but these laws are all fair. The laws had to have equality for it to be fair to everyone. Many people may also say that there should not be laws, and you should have your own freedom. If this happens, you would not get punished for all the terrible things you do.

After a while, The Babylonian Empire started trade. Many craftspeople used materials brought from distant lands. They traded ideas and wisdom for items and materials.

The society was fair for a short amount of time. The laws treated higher classes differently, but even slaves had rights. Slaves could work in different places and keep their salary. They could own their own property. If they had enough money, they could even buy freedom. Because of these rights, slaves had a chance to start their life over.

Women started to have more rights also. They could own their own property and keep money of their own. All the women had some rights to feel equal to everyone around them.

Everything the Babylonian Empire did improved their empire. They made special laws to be fair and make everyone equal. They traded to inherit more wisdom and materials. Slaves could change their life forever if they had enough money to buy their own freedom. Women had more rights, so they were more equal to everyone around them. Everything The Babylonian Empire did was something to make the empire more special, and civilized for everyone to live in.
