Bangladesh; A Short Brief

Bangladesh, My motherland. I am proud of my country.

Bangladesh, A country in South East Asia. This small country is surrounded by India from East, West and North, The Bay of Bengal at South. We have 4053 Km international border with India and 193 Km with Burma. The total area of Bangladesh is 143,998 sq km.  It’s geographic location is 24 00 N, 90 00 E.

The approximate population of Bangladesh is 158,570,535. About 89.6% people of this country are Muslim. The state language is Bengali. This is the only nation who sacrificed life for it’s mother language. Basing on our language movement United Nations observes International Mother Language Day on 21 February every year.

Bangladesh got independency from Pakistan in 1971 after a war of 9 months. India had a great contribution in our liberation war.

The main economy of this country is basically agricultural based. But we have a commendable success in garments sector. Our main industries are cotton textiles, jute, garments, tea processing, paper newsprint, cement, chemical fertilizer, light engineering, and sugar.

The largest mangrove forest of the world Sundarban is located in this country. Tiger is the national animal. This country is the highest peace keeper provider in United Nations Peace Keeping Missions.

Though my country is a poor and overpopulated country, but we have a very rich cultural heritage.

Dr Mohammed Yunus of my country won the nobel  prize for his works for his contribution in eradicating poverty.

Corruption, poverty, poor governmental systems bring this country in very often in news. But beyond everything, this is my country and I am proud to be a Bangladeshi. I am proud of my country.
