Bones Episode Review: The Memories in The Shallow Grave
A review of the season premiere that first aired 11/3/2011.
Synopsis: A body is found in a shallow grave at a paintball field and, while investigating it, Booth and Brennan need to adjust to being expectant parents; starting with figuring out living arrangements.
What I liked about this episode: The case itself was somewhat interesting because the victim suffered from amnesia and couldn’t account for weeks of her life. More importantly, the evidence they discovered pointed to a life of crime while the woman was suffering from the amnesia.
The episode also managed to throw in a few twists that kept the murderer from being too obvious; at least until toward the very end. Oh and the way they ended up proving he did it was pretty cool too.
What I didn’t like about this episode: I’m just not feeling the whole Booth and Brennan as a couple/soon-to-be parents plot. The sexual tension between the two was always one of the biggest attractions of this show. Now that they are a couple, it’s almost sickening. I think it would have been better if she would have gotten pregnant from a random trist and done the whole single-mom thing (ala Murphy Brown).
Not to mention, wasn’t the whole point of Booth and Brennan not being a couple because they wouldn’t be allowed to work together any more? What happened to that? That’s a pretty big hole in the plot, if you ask me.
Final Opinion: I didn’t totally hate this episode but it really makes me think this series won’t be worth watching for too much longer.
