The Khmer Rouge is a period of time that when modern day Cambodia was ruled by Saloth Star, also known as Pol Pot. The Khmer Rouge political party was a communist group that ruled over Cambodia for four years from 1975 to 1979. The Khmer Rouge was founded in 1951 and ended in 1981.  During their rule, the Khmer Rouge slaughtered 2 million Cambodians by executions, starvations and forced labour. This was considered a Genocide. A Genocide is when a ethnic, racial, religious or national group are being wiped out or destroyed. The Khmer Rouge also renamed Cambodia the ‘Democratic Kampuchea’.
