Causes Behind The Rise of The Maoists in India
India, to the close of the first decade of the twenty first century, has been facing with the formidable menace of the Maoists. Union Government and some state governments in India are very much worried…
Death of a man because of hunger at Amlasol in the district of West Midnapur was reported by the media. The notable left leaders came to know this and instantly denied it. One of their chiefs in West Bengal reached the spot and exerted pressure on the son of the dead man to accept that malnutrition and not hunger was the cause of the death. This attempt was condemnable and fortunately this attempt was displayed in the electronic media. The ill-fated minor uttered in response: I have failed to give food and my father died. Yes, he has been pressurized thrice and thrice he uttered the same words. Such attitude of the rulers is enough to disillusion the people concerned.
Lalgarh has been reportedly infested by the Maoists. Lalgarh, actually the region known as the Junglemahal in the western part of West Bengal covering the districts of Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapur, has been a site for utter exploitation. Money in crores allotted for the developmental projects has been dried up by the cadres of the CPI (M) and by the administration. This region is mainly a tribal belt. To the security forces, believe it or not, women have been subjects of sexual abuse for many years. Persons of the administration and persons of the political arena have specific knowledge of it. They have maintained deadly silence years after years.
Interested people have selected Junglemahal to build up of a huge Special Economic Zone and for this reason dislodgement of the tribal people from the region has been considered as a must. But very few persons have the information. After an inauguration ceremony of a factory of the Jindal Group of Industry the Chief Minister has been a target of an unsuccessful landmine blasting by the Maoists. This has given the police personnel scope to torture the tribal people. This is the beginning of the tribal revolt of Lalgarh, 2009. And CPI (M) activists have been the target of the CPI (Maoists). And murder is the part of daily news. Inhumane oppression on the peace-loving tribal people is the part of the daily news. Non-violent resistance of the tribal people challenging the brutality of the security forces sent jointly by the left and right of the power is the part of the daily news.
Maoists of India have killed more than 6000 people within a span of last twenty years. This is from a statement of the Indian Prime Minister. There is also a simultaneous figure of the people who have been killed by the Indian security forces within this period.
In greater part of some 200 districts in India writs of the Maoists are run and the Maoists collect revenues and they have developed their local government. They have also introduced parallel education. They are regular in the recruitment of people for their ‘people’s army’ and those people are trained in the hides of the mountainous terrains. Indian Maoists have by this time influenced a wider section of the middle-class intelligentsia. They have even influenced the Governor of a state and the particular state is famous for being highly infested by the Maoists. It is the state of Jharkhand and in 21 out of 23 districts of this state Maoists have been active for a long time. Annihilation is the familiar way of their operation. Mr. K. Satyanarayana is the Governor of Jharkhand. He has recently stated that the Maoists target the corrupt officers only.
Another reason behind the rise of the Maoists in India is the double standard maintained by the people of the opulent section of the society. It is no wonder that Maoists will find favorable environment in a country where at least 40 percent of the population live below the poverty line and in a country where everyone save these poorer population can pull on with comparative happiness.
It is another fact that the society has been dying slowly because of weakness in intellect. Who can assure that there are really hard-working persons who may be ready to stake a life in order to study the country called India and also to study its splendorous people? Unless this is achieved with total commitment Maoists and many others will have ground to emerge and reign without being adequately challenged.
Well. Is there anyone ready to answer why Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath have been blindly rejected? Where else we will find an answer for our crisis?
