Causes of the Revolution

The Sons of Liberty threated any one who got their papers stamped. Many stampers’ house were destroyed and Parliment repealed the Stamp Act.

There where 7 main reasons we have a revolution: sugar act, stamp act, Boston massacre, Boston Tea party, The First Continental Congress, Paul Revere’s Ride, and The Declaration of Independence. Each of them affected the revolution and each other.

The sugar act was the first act the made the colonists mad. This was a tax that was put on cloth, wines, and molasses. England also made sure that the colonists were not allowed smuggled items, but they failed.

The Sugar act wasn’t a success so England came back with the Stamp act. The Stamp act was when they taxed newspapers, almanacs, pamphlets, official documents, and cards had to have stamp so they wouldn’t be illegal. The stamp indicated that they were taxed and you could use them. The sons of liberty threatned any one who got their papers stamped. Many stamper’s house were destroyed and Parilement repealed the Stamp act.

With all the violance the colonists have been making England has decided to send military people to keep the colonists less violent. Well one day one of the colonists was bothering a soldier and other colonists joined and started pelting them with snowballs. Other soldiers came and shot 5 colonist dead. It wasn’t much of a massacre it was more like a riot. The were held in a trial and John Adams defended them. I think he defended them because he didn’t want England to think they were savages. Parilement took back all taxes except one on tea.

Nobody bought the tea because of smugglers were getting tea cheaper than England’s prices from the Dutch. After a while England lowered the tax on tea and were delivering it to Boston. John Hancock the great smuggler didn’t like that, he got the Sons of Liberty all worked up and then they poured all the tea into the ocean thus we have the Boston Tea Party. The Sons of Liberty were dressed as Indians so they wouldn’t recognize them.

The first continental congress tried to see if the Boston tea party was worth it or was it going to ruin our lifes. Then England put Massachuets under military arrest and tried to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams, but Paul Revere warned them of the approach. The second Continental Congress talked about how they could solve the conflicts between Massachuets and England. They decided to go to war with them, with the famous speech “Give me liberty or give me death.” The last plea to the King they sent the Declaration of Independence.
