Columbus Discovered What?

Christopher Columbus is the one that has been given credit for discovering United States of America.  Well, the first question that comes to my mind is, how he got credit for an entire continent that was not lost? The word discover means to find or make known of for the first time.  If I’m not mistaken the natives would not agree that this continent was ever lost.   It is clear that this land was occupied before Columbus came.  The second question that comes to my mind is, how did he navigate to a land that was lost?  There had to be some directions as to where the location was before he came, otherwise, I imagine that he would have just sailed and indefinite period of time without locating this continent. I’m all for giving credit where credit is due.

Then there is this burning question of the name of this country before he “discovered” it.   If you look at a map you will see that there is a place in the Atlantic Ocean called America Samoa, which I feel is the real name of this country.  My reasoning is because of the Samoan Natives here.  If you take note of Mexico and several states you will see lots of the culture before Columbus still exist today.  From history, we know that the natives spoke a language that has been replaced by English.  Columbus came from South America which is a Spanish speaking country, therefore he was able to communicate with the natives.  That tells me that the language was Spanish related.  Just as we speak English with a different from people born and raised in England but still called the English language.  Again, if you look at a map you will see that you can literally drive from here to South America by way of Central America’s(which is called Middle America today according to an atlas that I got from my 14yr old grandson), Isthmus of Panama which connects to Columbia.

Let’s go back to the name United States of America.  We were taught that Columbus was sent by England and Spain to make the discovery. United States, um, United Kingdom, which England is a major part of.  The new language is English here.  Okay, we know that England is the leader in this new world discovery.  Now we have the word America, okay, Columbus sailed from South America through Central America which connects the to continents together.  Hence the name United States(England) of America(Spain, South America and Middle America.  I’m afraid Chris this is not a discovery zone for you!!!
