Communism: A 70-Year Experiment

The history of communism in Russia.

The Cold War was the period of conflict, tension and competition between the United States and the Soviet from the mid-1940s until the early 1990s. As the United States’ hostility toward the Soviet Union grew, members of the Communist party came increasingly to be viewed as potential enemy agents. Some Bolsheviks believed war communism would replace the capitalist system that was destroyed in 1917. Though war communism lasted during the civil war, the war destroyed Russian. Many urban workers supporting the Bolshevik revolution employed in major industries depressed. War communism was devastating to agriculture. Peasants took and redistributed noble lands and held small plots of land. Nikita Khrushchev was born in 1894, and died in 1971. From 1958 until 1964, he was premier of the Soviet Union. He helped organize the Austrian State Treaty, and also provoked the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 during his time in office. He was on the leading board when the USSR. launched Sputnik in 1957. Joseph Stalin was born in 1879 and died in 1953. He had a dictatorial authority over his country from 1923 to 1953. He led his country through World War II, and was mostly responsible for splitting up Germany into its territories. John F. Kennedy was born in 1917 and died at his assassination in 1963. He became the 35th president of the United States in 1961 and was so until his assassination. He was responsible for the Bay of Pigs, and helped his country regain its dignity through the Cuban Missile Crisis. In addition to the Bay of Pigs invasion, Kennedy was also responsible for at least a few assassination attempts on Fidel Castro of Cuba. Richard M. Nixon was born in 1913 and died in the mid-90s. He was 37th president of the United States from 1969 to 1974, and led his country through struggles with the Soviet Union. Nixon withdrew the American troops in Vietnam, and also managed to make an ally with the People’s Republic of China. Fidel Castro Ruz was born in 1926, and became Cuba’s dictator in 1959. He has held his power ever since then. Castro stood against the Bay of Pigs, an invasion from the US. Government, and about thirty other assassination attempts from the same government. The cold war was not a conflict in the sense that physical battles took place.

The primary enemies in the cold war were the United States and the former Soviet Union. The United States opposed communism, which was the basis of the Soviet government; in turn, the Soviet Union was determined to rid the world of capitalism, which is a major component of America’s political system. Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev born 2 March 1931 was a Russian politician. He was the last General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the last head of state of the USSR. His attempts at reform as well as summit conferences with United States President Ronald Reagan, contributed to the end of the Cold War, and also ended the political supremacy of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and led to the destruction of the Soviet Union. Perestroika is the Russian term for the economic reforms introduced in June 1985 Mikhail Gorbachev. Its literal meaning is “restructuring”, referring to the restructuring of the Soviet economy. Glasnost is the policy of maximal publicity in the activities of all government institutions in the Soviet Union, together with freedom of information, also introduced by Mikhail Gorbachev.

All of this information demonstrates the flaws of communism in Russia and how it led to a corrupt government. As you may have noticed communism is not very cheerful, but instead gloomy and depressing. It has led to Famine, Wars, and many other conflicts. Even Russian civilians thought this, for if they had not they probably would not have started a revolution.
