Decisions Which Involve Civil Rights

This article goes over what I perceive is the most important Supreme Court decision that involved civil rights.

I consider the most important law/Supreme Court decision which involves civil rights to be what was displayed in the First Amendment. I say this because the First Amendment covers basic liberties that everyone should have and use within their lives. These kinds of things include the freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the freedom to petition to the government about various kinds of grievances. Without these crucial, basic things in place, the United States would have been operating in a means where it’s a dictatorship and not a democracy. In addition to that, to reinforce my opinion, the citizens probably wouldn’t have any input in the political process of voting for senators and future presidents, if the 1st Amendment was never inserted into the bill of rights.

The website of the NAACP is http://www.naacp.org/content/main/

The important civil rights issues that the NAACP continues to pursue today include:

  • Litigation
    • The NAACP has fought legal battles to win social justice for all Americans. They are addressing civil rights violations and they pave a road in fighting to prevent the erosion of the Civil Rights laws that were enacted in the country.
  • Civic Engagement
    • The NAACP is attempting to increase the African American responsiveness to be fully engaged in political processes which occur every two years (senators, districts, etc) and every four years (with the president).
  • Economic Opportunity
    • Economic inequalities by race needs to be erased. Every American should reap the same economic benefits.
  • Federal Advocacy
    • Federal Advocacy focuses on the promotion and protection of civil rights, a fair and equal justice system, a world class education for all Americans, a fair workplace environment, and the ability to secure affordable housing and health care for all Americans.
