Why would the Nazis spend the time and money to clothe, feed, and even produce payrolls and money
(and stores w/ goods for them to purchase) if they were going to execute them? And why would they execute
people who were producing items vital to the German war effort.

Many reports OF THE TIME of the work camps from both Nazis and Allies describe them as being very fair to
the prisoners.
