Dynasties That Reigned The Longest in History Three

This is the third and final sequel to my article “Dynasties That Reigned the Longest in History".

1.) Ottoman Dynasty (1281-1923)

The Ottoman Dynasty reigned from 1281 to 1923 for a period of 642 years. This dynasty, which is also known as Imperial House of Osman, ruled the Ottoman Empire. Osman I started the dynasty. The ruler of the empire is called Sultan and has the sole and absolute regent, head of state and head of government of the empire.

2.) Funan Dynasty (1 CE–630)

Funan Dynasty was a Southeast Asian dynasty that ruled from 1 CE to 630 CE for a period of 629 long years. The dynasty was an ancient pre-Angkor Indianized Khmer kingdom located around the Mekong Delta. At the height of the dynasty’s power, the kingdom and all its principalities covered much of mainland Southeast Asia. The capital is presumed to be located at Cambodia’s Mekong Delta.

3. Shang Dynasty (1600 BC–1046 BC)

China’s Shang Dynasty ruled China from 1600 BCE to 1046 BCE for a period of 554 years. This dynasty, which is regarded as the 2nd Chinese dynasty, ruled the northeastern region of the area known as “China Proper” in the Huang He River valley.”

4. Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897)

The Joseon Dynasty of Korea reigned from 1392 to 1897 for a period of 505 years.  This dynasty, which is also known as Choson Dynasty, was founded at the present-day location of Kaesong City after Goryeo Kingdom was overthrown. Its capital was relocated to modern-day Seoul. This dynasty was the last royal and later imperial dynasty of Korean history. The dynasty was the longest ruling Confucian dynasty.

5. Xia Dynasty (2100 BCE–1600 BCE)

China’s Xia Dynasty reigned from 2100 BCE to 1600 BCE for a period of five centuries or 500 years. It is china’s first dynasty as described in ancient historical records such as the Bamboo Annals. This dynasty was established by Yu the Great. The dynasty was preceded by the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors and followed by the Shang Dynasty.

6. Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392)

Goryeo Dynasty reigned from 918 to 1392 for a period of 474 years. It was the dynasty followed by Joseon Dynasty. This dynasty, which is also spelled Koryo, was established by Taejo Wang Kon and responsible for the unification of the Korean Peninsula. This dynasty is credited for the cretion of the world’s first metal-based movable type printing press in 1234 and the oldest surviving movable metal type book. The English name “Korea” was derived from “Goryeo”.

7. Keita Dynasty (1200- 1670)

Keita Dynasty ruled Mali from 1200 to 1670 for almost five centuries or for a period of 470 years. It was the ruling lineage of pre-imperial and imperial Mali. This Muslim dynasty claim descent from Bilal, the muezzin of Prophet Muhammad. The first mansa of the Mali Empire was Sndiata Keita. Mansa in English is emperor.

8. Dalai Lama (1492-1959)

Gendun Drup was the 1st Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama ruled Tibet from 1492 to 1959 for a period of 467 years. The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhism and the political leader of Tibetan people. As believed by its followers, the Dalai Lama is the current incarnation of a long line of Tulkus or Buddhist Masters These Tulkus are exempted from the wheel of death and rebirth. These ascended masters have chosen of their own free will to be reborn to this place in order to teach humanity. Tenzin Gyatso is the 14th and current Dalai Lama.

9. Alaouite Dynasty (1666- current)

Alaouite Dynasty is the longest reigning dynasty in existence. This dynasty in Morocco started to reign from 1666 up to present for a period of 443 years. The name Alaouite comes from the Ali of its founder Moulay Ali Cherif who became Sultan of Tafilalt in 1631. His son Mulay r-Rshid (1664-1672) was able to unite and pacify the country. The Alaouite family claim descent from Muhammad through the line of Fatimah az- Zahrah, Muhammad’s daughter, and her husband, the Fourth Caliph Ali ibn Abi Talib.
