Egypt in Crisis: Hosni Mubarak Did Not Resign
Tomorrow, one million people are estimated to be taking part in the protests in Egypt. With so many international and economic pressures upon Egypt it is amazing Hosni Mubarak has not yet swallowed his pride, and resigned.
Today, Contrary to popular beliefs Hosni Mubarak has announced to the nation that he is not going to step down, that he will stay in office until the end of his term- September. My question is; what is it really going to take for Mubarak to resign? Foreign interventions? It is the role of the international community to advise him that his time is up, and he needs to finally move on. Governmental officials are suggesting Mubarak resign as soon as possible, and his defiance is outrageous. President Obama is said to be disappointed.
The surrounding countries are urging Mubarak to stay in power, because if the population receives the ultimate reward of Mubarak’s resignation, this can and likely will create problems throughout the whole middle east where people are oppressed, and sick of maltreatment. The improper treatment of the people in these countries needs to come to an end, and if Mubarak decides to resign it seems as though he’d be giving his power away.
However, the Americans seem to hold the upper-hand in this situation because of the fact that they provide over $1 billion dollars to the Egyptian military annually. Economical rewards usually outweigh all other rewards.
It is expected that the whole nation is going to protest, and it could be the biggest Egyptian protest yet with over 1 million protesters. If this protest goes nationwide, it is only imaginable what this could bring.
Best wishes to everyone in Egypt at the moment.
