Egyptian Archaeologists Have Discovered 12 Statues of Sphinxes in Luxor Mall

Egyptian archaeologists have discovered 12 new statues Mall sphinxes in Luxor, said on Monday the Supreme Council for Egyptian antiquities.

Found statues date from the reign of Pharaoh Nectanebo I, (380-362 BC).

As explained by the head of the Council, Zahi Hawass, the new discoveries are made not on the previously known route through which passed alley of sphinxes, and the suppression of the road Nectanebo I, leading from the Luxor Temple at Karnak, on the other road leading into the temple of Mut.

In addition, to the east of the intersection of these roads found another path that led to the Nile. Before, it was only known from written sources. As explained Hawass, this road was used for the delivery of the sacred boat of Amun when he was heading to Luxor temple, as well as religious processions of the Pharaohs.
