Eight Gruesome Deaths in the History
Death: The Final Destination can occur in infinite number of ways. One of the most common is Murder. While Murder itself is quite gruesome, people across the history have come up with many nasty ways to kill. Even famous people could not escape these horrible ways. Let us take a look at few of them.
Hypatia

Hypatia was a notable woman Greek Mathematician, Philosopher and Astronomer from Alexandria. She was murdered by a Christian mob considering her a witch. They had her skin ripped off with oysters and clams etc. and then burned whatever remained.
Valerian

Valerian was a noble Roman Emperor. However he was subjected to many insults by his captors prior to his death. He was used as a footstool by Shapur I when mounting his horse. After some period Valerian was skinned alive and his skin was stuffed with straw and preserved as a trophy.
Al-Musta’sim

Al-Musta’sim was the last Abbasid Caliph in Baghdad. He was captured by Hulagu Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan. Then he was wrapped in a rug and was trampled by the horses of Hulagu Khan.
Inalchuq

Inalchuq was the Governor of Qtrar in the Khwarezmian Empire. Before his death he was captured by Mongols and molten silver was poured into his eyes, ears and throat.
Humphrey VIII de Bohun

Humphrey VIII de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford was one of the Ordainers who opposed Edward II’s excesses. He was killed by a pikeman by spearing the iron pike through his anus during the Battle of Borough Bridge.
Edward II

Edward II was king of England. It is believed that he was murdered by his Queen Isabella and her lover Mortimer by having a red-hot iron rod inserted into his anus.
György Dózsa

György Dózsa was a noble peasants’ revolt leader in Hungary and Christian martyr. After capturing in a battle he was asked to sit on a heated iron throne having a heated iron crown on his head and a heated sceptre in his hand. Then his partially roasted body was eaten by six of his fellow rebels who had been starved for a week before, while he was still alive.
Arthur Aston

Sir Arthur Aston was a Royalist commander and supporter for King Charles I in the English Civil War. He was bashed to death with his own wooden leg by the parliamentary soldiers who thought he was concealing golden coins.

Gruesome list! There is a monument and statue to Edward 11 very close to where I live. It is in the middle of a field with nothing else around and is said to be the place he died. Interesting, given the circumstances.

Wasn’t sure I wanted to read this, but turned out well. When I was in San Diego they had an exhibit on torture. Thinking there would be nothing I hadn’t heard of , or seen in some gore film, I went in. Humans are a special breed! The exhibit actually made me nauseous. Your article is nice, though!
Thanks,
Clay

I hope these are not included in children’s history books. They are the stuff nightmares are made of. Great job writing, Valli.
Take care & G♥d bless.

It’s really not about what these people did. Instead it’s about how inhuman people can be if they can think of these aweful ways to hurt and kill someone.

Interesting list Valli. Of course, sometimes these stories start long after someone has died. For instance there is no real evidence that Edward II was murdered. Good piece though.
