Ellis Island Immigrants
People who immigrated to Ellis Island compared to todays immigrants…
When my “ancestors” immigrated to this country, they had to learn to speak, read, and write in English and were more than happy to learn, since they left thier countries behind to start over here, builiding a ‘new life’ in this country. They did not uphold an ‘allegiance’ to the countries from which they immigrated from.. they made the United States of America thier new home.. building a new life for themselves…learning the ‘rules, regulations, and the law. Nowadays.. anyone immigrating to the United States still holds an allegiance to thier ‘home country’..YOU are now “Americans”, so you need to owe your allegiance to the United States.. not whatever country you came from. And everyone ‘expects’ everything to be handed to them on a silver platter, whereas my ancestors had to work hard and save to buy thier houses, cars or whatever they had thier goals set to achieve over here. Nowadays, anyone coming over here automatically has a “baby or 2 or 3″ because ‘welfare’ pays more if you have a kid than most jobs do. If you want to start a ‘new life’ here in the United States, you should also be willing to accept what this country was founded upon, its ideals, customs, beliefs, and religion. If you are not willing to accept our country as it is, you need to return to whatever country you immigrated here from. I am not saying that everyone who comes to the United States of America is automatically going to have kids and collect welfare, because it provides them with more money than working. I am sure that there are those who immigrate over here, who are “hard working” and deserve to be given thier “american citizenship”. However, i also think that if you are going to come over here, you need to learn the “english language” like my ancestors did- they worked, took care of thier families, cleaned house, and MADE TIME to learn how to speak, read, and write the ‘english language’. There are those who try to change what this country was “built on”, its ideas, customs, religions. If you don’t like being an “AMERICAN CITIZEN” you are free to return to whatever country you came from and resume living there.
