England For Stewart Ross

A brief account on a bloody battle.

1642, England, a very different country. Civil war was raging across England. Many families were affected by this war, including the family of Sir Hugh and Henry, Father and Son. These two were torn apart for the most common reason of that time; the civil war.

Sir Hugh supported the parliamentarians and Henry supported the Royalists. For this reason, Henry joined the Royalists, Sir Hugh joined Parliament. Their paths separated and they thought they would never meet again until the war ended. They were wrong.

At the battle of Edgehill, Parliament met the Royalists; Father met son. The Royalists made a cavalry charge, Sir Hugh rode alongside Prince Rupert, a master on a horse.

They clashed into the Parliamentarian cavalry and fierce fighting broke out. During the fight Henry met Sir Hugh and began to fight. Henry had the better of the fight, and knocked Sir Hugh off his horse to the ground. Henry had the chance to finish him off, but he couldn’t do it. So he helped his father off the field, and tended to his wounds, which were only minor cuts. He then helped him back to his house and told the maid to look after him, and nurse him back to health., then Henry left to rejoin his battalion.

A couple of years later, at the famous battle of Naseby in 1645. The Parliamentarians charged the Royalists and clashed, the fighting was fierce, and Sir Hugh was cutting his way through the Royalist ranks when he met a skilled swords man, he met him and they started to fight, the contest was tremendous, when Sir Hugh slashes at him and he falls of his horse with a groan. Sir Hugh gets off his horse to finish him off. He removes his helmet, and to his horror, he sees that it is his son, with blood all over, , Henry, he looks up, tears filled his eyes, and put Henry out of agony, and left in despair, victorious with his battalion.
