Enterprise of War
A description of the eras of war.
Wars begin around 10,000 B.C. This is almost the same time that the people start to settle the land and begin to civilize. Some of the great civilizations’ armies during this era are the Assyrians, the Greeks, and the Romans. These first armies used tactical skills and power in numbers to be great.
Then there is the age of chivalry. The height of this period is around the same time as the crusades. During this time the cavalry was the best army unit. The best of the cavalry was the knight. The knight is successful because of the discovery of iron. The knight’s armor is completely made out of iron.
Then comes the age of gunpowder. In 1494 King Charles VII’s army became the first in the world to use the cannon as a weapon. The cannon was the first widely used gunpowder weapon. The army that had cannons had the advantage. Many nomadic tribes that raided cities were wiped out because they didn’t have any gunpowder weapons.
Then comes the age of large scale combat. This age starts during the Civil War. During this time more weapons were created than ever before. Advancements continue to be made in weapons during the next 50 years until the start of WWII.
Then comes the age of the bomb. This age started in WWII , and we are still in this age. Some bombs created were guided missiles, nuclear bombs, bio-bombs, thermonuclear bombs, and space rockets. These new types of bombs are very dangerous. The threat of these bombs has prevented nuclear weapon owning countries from going to war.
War
War is a struggle between two groups. Any group can go to war, and it does not matter how small the groups are. War is normally fought to the death. In war there is no law. This makes killing legal.
There are many causes of war. War can be fought for land to live on. War can be fought for wealth. War can be fought for power, and war can be fought for security.
