Fertile Crescent

An informative bit about the Fertile Crescent.

The Fertile Crescent has been known as the crossroads of civilization, because a crossroad is “a place where different cultures meet” (Morris, 316). This area became a crossroad because the terrain is very flat and there aren’t many natural barriers. This makes it a good meeting place for people who can share food, merchandise, and ideas. It is located near the Tigris River, Euphrates River, and Nile River which make the soil very rich and fertile which is good for farming and is also a good place to establish a city because people can be provided enough food to survive. The rivers also provide transportation through the desert and to the Fertile Crescent. The Sumerians were the first to establish a city there and then others came afterward. It is called the crossroads of civilization, because it is where one of the first cities was created.
