George Washington’s Beliefs

.

He believed since the president was the Commander in Chief of the army, and since he was a general, that he would go and settle the rebellion himself. He went with over 13,000 militiamen to break up the uprising caused by the tax on whiskey. Once the rebels saw him and his militia, they immediately gave up and surrendered, saying they would pay the tax. A quote by a historian said: “Washington dispatched 13,000 militiamen to western Pennsylvania. He accompanied them part of the way” (The Whiskey Rebellion). This just shows that the rules would be enforced and taxes would be paid, ensuring fairness and equality for individuals, as well as financially benefiting the country, which would in turn, secure the blessings of liberty, publicly and privately.
