Germans Declare War on U.S.

Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany declared war on the United States on December 11th 1941. Hitler’s declaration brought The might of the United States into the European conflict and ceasing any neutrality that the US had been under just a few days previous to this act.

Even Hitler had been surrised at the attack of his axis partner Japan on Pearl Harbor a few days before his intent to bring the American forces into the war. Germany and Japan had an oral agreement that the two would join forces if Japan was attacked by the United States, not if Japan was the aggressor. On December 8, the Japanese Ambassador was ordered to go the German Foreign Minister, Von Ribbentrop  to get the assurance that Germany would side with the Japanese. The Germans or at least Von Ribbentrop stalled for time, fearing that the inclusion of the United States could overwhelm the German war effort.

Hitler, however thought otherwise, he felt it was just a matter of time before the United States declared war on Germany. The US navy was already attacking German U-boats in an attempt to safeguard the Atlantic convoys. Hitler also despised Roosevelt for his verbal attacks on Hitler’s Nazi ideology. Hitler believed the Japanese to be stronger than it actually was, and planned that once the Japanese had defeated the United States it would then help Germany to defeat the Russians. So with all these beliefs on the strengths and weaknesses of those countries he planned to defeat on the 11th of December the German charge d’affaires in Washington  handed the declaration of war to the US Secretary of State.

On the same day that this was happening in Washington, Hitler addressed the Reichstag to defend his declaration. Hitler claimed the real cause of the war was President Roosevelt for his support of the Jews and plutocrats and it was just a way to cover up for the collapse of the economic agenda. He further went on, saying Roosevelt incites war, then falsifies the causes. He wraps himself in a cloak of Christian hypocrisy then slowly but surely leads mankind to war. These claims were made by Hitler after he had declared war and the German parliament rose to their feet in thunderous applause for their leader.
