Answering questions about history topics during the “20″s

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Roosevelt’s aim as president during the time he was elected was to help the economy and all the people that were poor and needed help. This was very pleasing to the people in need since they had nothing to lose. .

Fireside Chat: Before reopening the banks, Roosevelt went on radio stations to explain his policies to everyone in a more personal manner. This was good because the people felt more close to him.

New Deal: The New Deal was the programs that Roosevelt set up to fight the depression. Roosevelt sent new bills to congress that were in favor of helping all the depressed people.

Hundred Days: Many of the bills in the New Deal were passed very quickly. These bills were great since they were aimed towards helping poor and depressed people.

Social Security Act: This act made works pay a certain fee to a special fund. After they retire, this money goes toward a pension which means they would get paid a certain salary even after they stop working. This helped many people living because after retirement, you don’t usually get any more money which means you have to go into your saving.

Second New Deal: The second new deals were bills passed during the year of 1935. the bill, including the social security act, were extremely helpful to all the people suffering during the depression.

Deficit Spending: Many of the proposed programs Roosevelt put into action were not completely paid for. Roosevelt barrowed money that he would have to pay back later. If his projects failed, he would lose lots of money and put the country in debt.

During the period known as the hundred day, congressed passed many of Roosevelt’s bills quicker then normal.

When Roosevelt tried to increase the Supreme Court, he failed and this caused him to damage his reputation. He was clumsy and it didn’t look professional to the public. This fed the critics who made him look worse to the nation.

Some reasons that people criticized FDR were that he tried to increase the size of the Supreme Court but failed and did it unprofessionally. He also funded his projects with barrowed money which could potentially put the whole country in debt. Also, when the economy dropped again and people lost their jobs, people blamed FDR because his plan was to stop things like this.
