History Is

What is history? History is the son dying, the mother crying, the father crestfallen lying on the floor. History is the hangman’s noose; the king’s head; the young man burnt at the stake. History is revolution, be it overthrowing a king, or inventing the cotton gin. History is the wise mans handbook, his guide for life, lest he let it repeat. History is all that has ever happened and we should learn from it .It is a story, man’s story, a story all our fingerprints are upon. Is history the random peasant living in a cottage? Or is it a king living in a grand castle? It is both, history is personal, history isn’t always the massive battles of the crusades, it’s sometimes just the boy sitting in the field. History is massive, it’s the rise and fall of civilizations. History is life. History is death. History is God’s gift to us, we shape it, but ultimately He is in control. That’s what history is.
