History of The Company of Alpha Romeo

   Company “Alpha Romeo” based in 1910, some decades lived manufacture and sale sports and racing cars. The Italian designers have tried to keep developed tradition and after the Second World War, but have quickly found out that for “survival” it is necessary to do road cars. In 1947 the company made only model Alfa-6S2500 which has been presented for the first time in 1939. The car was very expensive so to allow buy it the few could only. In 1949 the company under the direction of Oratsio Satta has let out the small car with a bearing body which was easier and cheaper in manufacture. The engine had four cylinders instead of six, a head of the block of cylinders from aluminum and the valves put in action by two camshafts. Competitors couldn’t offer such innovations.

   The car created on the basis of this innovation was known as model 1900 — on the working volume of its cylinders expressed in cubic centimeters. The car has been presented at the Parisian automobile exhibition in the autumn of 1949. This model has marked approach of a new epoch for company “Alpha Romeo”. However it didn’t become the end of manufacture of racing cars. The high-speed model with an emblem in the form of a clover the victories in the Formula 1 and other competitions strengthened image of firm, raising demand, and profits on sales allowed to pay expenses on manufacture of racing cars. In 50-60Th years “Alpha Romeo” has offered the consumer a number of novelties: heads of the block with two shaft, four and more valves on each cylinder, widespread today, were at that time the phenomenon extraordinary. Expensive cars of companies “Ferrari”, “Aston Martin”, “Porsche” could offer them only.« Alpha Romeo »has made these innovations mass. Almost each model of Alpha Romeo had a sports variant, an example to that is a series Julia. From the point of view of mechanics it there were similar cars which were issued by a racing, sports and four-door sedan with bodies. An outstanding series 2600 has been started in manufacture in the early sixties. It were expensive four-door cars among which owners there was a Pope. A series 2600 also included cars of a compartment 2+2 and a cabriolet on the similar chassis. The compartments designed taking into account possibility of their application in sports competitions, were made also in studio of bodies of “Zagato”.
