History’s Worst Tyrant

In this article we will look at a few of history’s most dreaded tyrants.

History is full of dictators and tyrants. Some are more evil than others and some have probably shaped the way the world is to some degree.

Of a few that come immediately to mind we have  Adolph Hitler, the Austrian that rose to power in Germany and waged a world war and persecuted the Jews.

Joseph Stalin, the Communist leader in the old USSR brought fear and death to millions.

Then we can consider Mao, the Chinese ruler who brought fear throughout his nation.

Go back further in history and we find the inspiration behind Dracula: the dreaded and brutal Lord Vlad Tepes III, also known as Vlad the Impaler. History recalls the death he brought to his own people was primarily through impalement, including women and children. Rumour has he even sat and feasted whilst people were put to a slow and painful death in this way.

There are many more. Pol Pot, Qin Shihuang and Ceausescu to name some more.

Readers will know of many more who may come to mind and bear in mind the worst would not necessarily mean the most people killed. It could be the way in which the killings happened or simply the way rulers victimised their people.

History, both centuries ago and more modern day , records some horrific and brutal accounts of mass slaughter and persecution. It is hard to believe in modern day times atrocities continue to happen around the world. History will not stop now.

They painted history but without them, history would have been dull… A balance of good and evil makes the world go round… Without Hitler, for example, Germany would have been ruined economically because of the Reparation charge they had to pay based on the Treaty of Versailles. Excellent article, thank you for sharing… :)

By shear numbers of killed, in modern times, Mao is the biggest murderer who never got his due. Also, Annashank’s comment above makes sense if you understand how the WW I Armistice agreement punished Germany to the point that someone like Hitler came to power to salvage their economy. But Anna leaves out the part that Hitler also ruined Germany economically with his wild ambitions via the thumping he (and the German people) absorbed, courtesy of the Allied powers.

Hitler always has my vote for this category. I always thought the Germans and Japanese during World War II were some of the most “patriotic” people in history. They followed their leaders right down to the bitter, crushing end. Had Hitler not come to power, Germany, just like the United States, Great Britain and other nations, would have eventually emerged from the ravages of the Great Depression. It was a country with great resources and scientific talent. They didn’t need Hitler. The best definition of Nazi Germany that I ever heard of: a country that collectively lost its mind.

its sad that so many of the pages of human history are written in blood….the people of vlad dracul’s age didn’t know any better because they were fearful primitives…we have computers and cell phones and satellites but if I had to guess i think the 21st century will be even more savage and brutal than the 20th
