Homeopathic Treatment During The Spanish Flu

Influenza pandemics pose a great threat to the health of the worlds population. Infectious diseases, like the flu has been a threat to humans for centuries. Over the last 300 years, there have been reported ten influenza pandemics. Recent analysis has shown that the Spanish flu in 1918-1919 killed 50-100 million people globally.

 We have been informed by the World Health Organization, that young people probably are the once that will be most affected by the Swineflu in 2009. It was also young people that were at risk during the 1918 influenza pandemic. Men and women, 25-34 years of age were most severely affected. It seemed they had no immunity and succumbed to pneumonia that could kill within days.

 During the Spanish flu many people sought homeopathic care. Many Medical Doctors were practicing homeopathy at this time, much to the dislike of non-homeopathic doctors and pharmacists. Most of the patients responded well to homeopathic treatment, and in numerous cases homeopathy saved lives. It is reported that while conventional hospitals in the US has a 80-90% loss of life during scarlet fever, cholera and flu epidemics (around 1919), Homeopathic hospitals had only a 2-5% loss.

 An article published in the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy in May 1921 states that Dean W.A.Pearson of Philadelphia collected 26,795 cases of influenza treated by homeopathic physicians with only a mortality rate of 1.05%, while the average conventional medical approach had a mortality rate of 30%.

 Some of the ill effects of the conventional treatment at this time, may be subscribed to the use of aspirin. It was reported that patients that had been taken aspirin previous to homeopathic treatment had a lower survival rate.

According to A.F. Stevens, M.D. in St.Louis the patients that had undergone conventional treatment: “.. died like flies around a plate of poison although ‘science’ did all that could be done to ‘save’ them”.

 Large scale, Double-blind-placebo trials on homeopathic treatment of people with the flu or flu-like symptoms verify positive results. Studies have been conducted by independent researchers, and the conclusion is that the positive effect of homeopathic treatment of influenza is considered proven.
