How Christianity in The Roman Empire Grew
How Christianity in rome grew to what it is today in the western world.
There were many causes for the triumph of Christianity. They were major religious, economical and political causes that helped. The religion of Christianity only allowed for a person to pray to one and only one god, many of the people that still believed in the Roman gods though that they were unpatriotic because they refused to perform caesar worship, which showed that they were disloyal to their rulers. Life for the Christian Romans were very hard, they were not allowed to hold meeting as it would be unlawful, they were also hated in the empire because their loyalty was in question. A key element for the Roman Christians was Emperor Constantine which was a Christian Emperor for the Roman Empire. He was going to fight a war against rival emperor Maxentius when he got a dream in the sign of Christ, because of the sign he engraved it onto his helmet and ordered his soldiers to put it on their shields, he had also made a banner with God’s face on it as a secret weapon to help him. When Maxentius’ men saw the banner they tried to regroup but were too slow, and lost the battle with Constantine crushing them with high odds, he declared that he owed the victory to the Christian God. When the rich forcibly took the lands of the poor by just grabbing their land the poor turned into christianity because their leader was going to declare a new law, when he was voted, so that all the land would be given back to the people that needed it most. Not long after, the politicians started to turn into Christians because it was now they only way to get into “high office” which has became because of Constantine spreading christianity over the empire. After Constantine won the second war in modern-day Turkey, his sister talked him into giving forgiveness the people that had not believed in Christianity because forgiveness is what christians are though. After stating all facts i conclude that its fair to say the Christianity in the Roman Empire was largely thanks to Constantine as without him it would not have spread and he would not have forgave people and converting them into Christians. The poor people of rome were the first ones to follow christianity because all their land was stolen from them, making me wonder that if the rich did not take the land from them if there would even be christianity now.
