How Effectively Did the Liberal Reforms Help the Poor?
What the liberal reforms where and what there effect on the United Kingdom were during the early 1900’s.
In my view the liberal reforms were created to help the poor and the needy as well as those who could no longer earn an income because of sickness or old age.
With regards to children the liberal reforms helped them to achieve a healthier lifestyle, Matrons were places in schools to provide medicine for the sick children and school meals became a healthy part of their lifestyle, for example children were being malnourished at home and during the school term their weight increased which showed that the school meals were giving them a healthier lifestyle.
Old people were an important group for the liberals, old people were given pensions so that they would have a small income, on which they could live off and buy any necessary items.
There were also reforms in the way the sick were treated; sick pay was introduced as to help the working class if they had the misfortune of having become ill.
Finally, the Liberals tried to help the unemployed giving them unemployment benefits if they could not get any work.
In conclusion I think that the Liberal reforms helped the poor to a good extent and that it helped them to achieve a better financial and healthier lifestyle.
