How Queen Elizabeth Came to Be
Who will say queen Elizabeth the second is a queen created by fate?
God Save the Queen
Of the British Commonwealth
Hope it’s not a malign
If I wish her great health
God Save the Queen
The best we have ever found
All eyes has seen
She is the best in the world round
God Save the Queen
Her majesty, crowned royal
For this does mean
Her followers are loyal
God Save the Queen
Now everyone is beckoned
To see – not another queen
Save Queen Elizabeth the second.
Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary:
Born at 2.40 am on April 21, 1926 at 17 Burton street, London. First child and daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, George and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon of the Windsor lineaged British royal family. Spent most of her early late at 145 Piccadilly her family home. Had a fun filled early relationship with her Grandfather king George V. This relationship was evident as the archbishop of Canterbury once visited the king and found him Crawling on all fours across the floor as he pretended to be a horse while the young princess acted the groom. Was pupil to Horace Smith, the royal riding master. Her love for horse Riding became evident as she once confided to her teacher that had it not been for her Royal position, she would “like to be a lady living on the country with lots of horse and dogs”.
In 1936, king George V died and a new king Edward VIII ascended the throne. The new king was senior and brother to the Duke of York, father to Princess Elizabeth. However, the new reign was short lived as Edward VIII was abdicated due to a scandal of his affair with Divorcee, Mrs. Wallis Simpson, who he later married.
A dramatic change occurred in the life of princess Elizabeth in 1937 as her father the Duke of York, due to the abdication of his brother, ascended the throne as King George VI hence, the Princess Elizabeth became Heiress presumptive to the throne. This could be termed an act of fate as Elizabeth was not born with an eye on the crown.
Moved to Buckingham palace in 1937 as an II year-old. Began lessons in constitutional history at Eton College. Mad her first radio broad cast at the age of 14 to all the children of Britain and the common wealth. Was president of charities such as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for children in hackney, east London and the National society for the prevention of cruelty to children. Flew for the first time in 1945. Joined the Auxiliary territorial services as second subaltern No. 230873 a rank equivalent to second lieutenant.Rose through the ranks to become a junior commander. Made her pledge of dedication to the people for the common wealth in 1947 the same year she made her first official visit to south Africa. Married to lieutenant Philip Mountbatten on November 20, 1947.
In 1952, King George VI died. On February 6th 1952, telegraph was sent from the acting colonial secretary, Jamaica to the commissioner, Turks islands to inform him that his majesty king George Vi passed away on the night of 5th February 1952.”
On June 2, 1953, princess Elizabeth was at Westminster Abbey crowned “Elizabeth the second, by the Grace of God of the united kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and her other realms and territories Queen, Head of the common wealth, Defender of the Faith”.
Challenges
Her major challenges during her right include:
- Her family wellbeing
- Contesting with Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female prime minister, for her cherished and important position of Britain’s figure head and ultimate ambassador
- The IRA terroristic war for independence
- In 1950, during the Suez crisis, a debate on the validity of the monarchy as an institution arose leading to the British press questioning the relevance of the Royal family in the second half of the twentieth century
