I’ll Always Remember 9/11/01.

This recent tragedy in American history will go down in the same way as Pearl Harbor. It’s been a while since 9/11 but we still should not forget.

Do you recall where you were when you first heard the news that the World Trade Center had been hit by two airplanes and had collapsed, killing thousands of innocent people? I do. I was at my job in a remanufacturing plant. Someone came running over to tell me the news and since I had not been listening to a radio all that morning, I could not believe it at first. I thought it was just some weird joke. But it was no joke, and the world changed a bit that day, my little section of it included. I doubt if anyone will ever forget where they were or what they were doing on that day.

It was a devastating morning, even for those of us who live far away from New York City. We thought about the thousands of people who died that day for no reason except at a mad-man’s whim. The cowards who did that evil thing will spend forever thinking about what they did because Paradise is not where they will spend eternity. Isn’t it an interesting thought that they will be in Hell forever, wanting to make things different but unable to?

After 9/11, for the longest time, the country, which has always been somewhat divided in regards to their party preferences, was suddenly united in a most wondrous way. Flags flew high over entire neighborhoods and inside factory buildings. People wore American flag t-shirts at such volume that the manufacturers had to work overtime to keep up, same with car flags and lapel pins. This seemed to go on for about a year after the tragic event, but then it dropped off again. What happened? Did folks get bored with all those flags? Did they lose interest in American unity? Or did they just simply forget?

I would hope that nobody would ever forget what happened on that day but sadly, some of us apparently have. The same George W. Bush who could do no wrong shortly after that tragic day, went back to being everyone’s favorite scapegoat as usual, and could suddenly do nothing right again. The country that had survived one of its few moments of unity was torn apart once more, due largely to the efforts of the mainstream media, who love a good fight even if they have to create it themselves.

I still wear American flag t-shirts, though I’m finding more and more of them discarded at yard sales these days. What’s wrong with wearing the colors now that America has fought her way back from that day? We are fighting terror now to the best of our ability and again, the media tries to destroy every good thing that is done. Why do they have to show only the bad stuff on the air? I’ll tell you why, because they think that’s the only way to do news. Sometimes there is good news too, but how would we ever know since we’re not allowed to see it.

I will remember 9/11, not because I believe in George Bush or because I believe in America, but because I believe that all life is precious and should not just be tossed away like an old holey sock. The innocent people who died that day will be remembered, by their families and friends, and neighbors. They will be remembered for their courage in the face of severe horror and oppression, they will be remembered for the terrible way they died, and they will be remembered by me. I never knew any of those people, but I will never forget them. God Bless America!

I remember the day it happened and where I was. I was cleaning the bedroom when my son called, come here mom, and I ran in the living room to see the eexplosion and flames. I hope we can always say God Bless America regardless of who is president.

An interesting article. It parallels one I wrote called, The Day Kennedy Died. Love your writing.
