India-Pakistan Conflict

An overview on the conflict over Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

Secondly, a long-term solution must be created and agreed upon by both nations. History has shown that over and over again fighting continues for one nation to own all of the disputed area. This suggests that instead of fighting over the nation an end to the violence should be brought by having the disputed area become

its own nation. The best way for the nation to function would to be as an independent nation with the United Nations serving as protection until its own military can be established. Both countries would benefit from this action finally

having peace as well as gaining another ally that in the long run will pay off.

Although Kashmir is far from being able to be a developed nation on its own, Kashmir can be shaped into a successfully developed nation in the long-term with. With thousands demanding azadi (freedom) and even National Conference president Omar Abdullah voicing his support for a debate on “independence” for the

state, the Mirwaiz said the voice of the people must be heard.2 This would be the best long-term solution to end fighting and to have a finial truce between India and Pakistan. In the long run developments in Kashmir could have a beneficial outcome for the entire global population as well. For example, Kashmir’s natural resources or man-made resources could be exported to other countries in exchange for other goods, therefore creating a more unified global community.

Finally a period of repair must take place to get the hostile area back on its feet and for peace to be established firmly. It is also necessary to help the local population and try to reverse short-term damage before it becomes long-term. First off focus should be put on the people suffering in the area. Relief services and “safe areas” should be set up for refugees and victims of violence. Out reach to foreign

nations for aid should take place. Getting other nations involved would not only help life’s of many in need but also start to establish alliances.

In addition, a plan of action to keep nations interested in the well being of Kashmir needs to be implemented and a way to unify nations. Therefore trade routes should be set up through the “had been” disputed area, primarily between India and Pakistan. Armed forced from a mediation nation should stay in the disputed area, especially along trade routes, to assure the safety of the people. Another plan to benefit the new free nation is to implement an education system to support the country’s intelligence level. An advance in the field of education would lead to advances in other areas such as medicine and technology. Once the hostile area has calmed and is fully recovered the plan will be accomplished and another step towards world peace and unity will be complete.

A four-point strategy would be the most effective way for the United Nations Security Council to become involved with the violent conflict of India and Pakistan’s dispute over Kashmir. First, a truce must be agreed upon by both nations with a will to achieve peace. Followed by Kashmir becoming an independent country and finaly a recovery period to set the new developing nation in the right direction. The dispute between India and Pakistan falls to the United Nations directly as a duty to be carried out by the Security Council. Not only will United Nations mediation benefit the local population but will do good for the world as a whole in the long run.
